In an email to customers on Thursday, Rosie’s Gaming Emporium in Virginia shed light on a series of unauthorized social media pages, fraudulent websites, and online gaming apps, falsely claiming to represent the company.
Rosie's is a chain of eight gambling facilities in Virginia owned
by Churchill Downs, Inc. and affiliated with its Colonial Downs racetrack.
The company has locations in Richmond, Hampton, New Kent, Collinsville, Dumfries,
Vinton, Emporia, and The Rose Gaming Resort, also in Dumfries. The Colonial Downs
racetrack is in New Kent.
Online casino gambling is currently illegal in Virginia. A
series of ads have popped up on social media websites like Facebook claiming to
be Rosie’s Gaming Emporium.
“These online accounts are not affiliated with us in any way
and are fraudulently using our name, images, and branding to mislead customers,”
Rosie’s Richmond General Manager, Vincent Jordan, said in an email to customers.
Jordan continued, saying the company was actively working
with Facebook and regulatory authorities to have the fraudulent pages removed.
“Do not register, deposit money, or engage with these
pages or apps, as they are not legitimate,” Jordan said. “To ensure your
safety, always verify that you are interacting with our official social
media pages and websites.
“If you come across any suspicious activity, we encourage
you to report it immediately. Your security and trust are our top priorities,
and we appreciate your vigilance in helping us combat online fraud.”
