Cessna Aircraft Company announced Tuesday at the Sun ’n Fun International
Fly-In and Expo that it has signed a long-term agreement with The Ohio State University’s Flight Education program. Initially, the
agreement includes an order for five Cessna Skyhawk 172 training
aircraft. First
deliveries begin in May, with the agreement running through 2022.
The new
Skyhawks will augment Ohio State’s current training fleet that
includes Cessna 152s, 172s and 310s, among others.

Remains of missing pilot found in Alaska
The U.S. Coast
Guard suspended its search for a missing pilot near Perry Island in
Prince William Sound, Alaska, after his remains were discovered Wednesday evening.
The crew of the Alaska State Trooper vessel Churchhill located and recovered the man's remains and the wreckage of his Cessna 180 airplane partially submerged along the coast of Culross Island.
Coast Guard and partner agency assets searched the vicinity of Perry Island and Culross Island near Whittier for 27 hours in rough weather during their efforts to locate the man who went down in the area Tuesday afternoon.
Assets involved in the search included an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter and HC-130 Hercules airplane from Air Station Kodiak, a Coast Guard Station Valdez 45-foot response boat, the Coast Guard Cutter Mustang and Sycamore, an Air Force 210th Rescue Squadron HH-60 Pavehawk helicopter and 211th Rescue Squadron HC-130 Hercules airplane from Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson and Alaska State Troopers.
"It is never easy when a search ends like this," said Capt. Paul Mehler, Sector Anchorage commander. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and loved ones.”
The Cessna 180 aircraft (tail number N9247C) is registered to Dale Carlson of Wasilla, Alaska, according to Federal Aviation Administration records.

Hainan Airlines increases aircraft efficiency with Boeing Wind Updates
Boeing announced Wednesday that Hainan Airlines has introduced the
Boeing Wind Updates solution into their operations to increase
efficiency and reduce fuel consumption across the airline's global
operations.
The airline has integrated the Wind Updates offering from Boeing Commercial Aviation Services to leverage real-time information that improves inflight airplane performance based on atmospheric conditions. Boeing Wind Updates will work to optimize flight operations across the Hainan Airlines fleet of Boeing 787 and Airbus 330 aircraft.
Boeing Wind Updates will reduce fuel consumption and improve in-flight performance for the Hainan Airlines aircraft fleets by providing customized, real-time wind and temperature information during every flight anywhere in the world. More current and accurate weather data allows for more effective use of modern aircraft capabilities and is expected to save Hainan Airlines an average of 200-400 pounds (90-180 kilograms) of fuel per flight.

Cessna 180 pilot goes missing in Alaska

and Air Force assets are searching for a missing pilot near Perry

The 11th Air Force Rescue Coordination Center (RCC) in Anchorage received a Mayday call from the pilot of a Cessna 180 airplane Tuesday afternoon. The pilot reported he was having engine trouble and stated he may have to set the plane down.
RCC Anchorage contacted the Coast Guard command center who took the lead on search efforts and dispatched an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter and HC-130 Hercules airplane from Air Station Kodiak, a Coast Guard Valdez 45-foot response boat, and the crews of the Coast Guard Cutter Mustang and Sycamore to the area. An Air Force 210th Rescue Squadron HH-60 Pavehawk helicopter, 211th Rescue Squadron HC-130 Hercules airplane and Alaska State Troopers joined the search.
"Our crews and assisting agencies are up against some extreme weather with this search," said Lt. Matthew Mitchell, Sector Anchorage search and rescue mission coordinator. The weather on scene is reported to consist of blowing snow with 200 yards of visibility.

Honeywell technology enables faster satellite-based search and rescue response
Honeywell announced Thursday that its Global Tracking solution has passed the final acceptance test for use on the European Space Agency's (ESA) Galileo search and rescue program by demonstrating dramatically reduced emergency response times. Galileo is a pan-European geo-positioning satellite system operated by the ESA and funded by the European Union.
Honeywell Global Tracking, part of Honeywell's Scanning and Mobility business, is working in partnership with the Aerospace & Defense division of Capgemini, the prime contractor for the Galileo search and rescue program, to deliver a high-precision positioning system that is fully compatible with the international standard, which is known as the Cospas-Sarsat standard. Tests using the Honeywell system have proven that the time from beacon transmission to detection and processing has been reduced from several hours to a few minutes - often the difference between life and death in an emergency situation.
The international Cospas-Sarsat program is a satellite-based search and rescue distress alert detection and information distribution system, best known for detecting and locating emergency beacons activated by aircraft, ships and remotely located people in distress. Honeywell's industry-leading satellite tracking technology, which detects faint alerts sent by emergency beacons around the world using a combination of Doppler curves, noise reduction, and advanced signal processing, quickly calculates the exact location of the beacon and sends the results to the relevant mission control center in the region.
"Up until now, Cospas-Sarsat has relied on satellites in low and high orbits, but medium orbits with satellites such as Galileo are better for search and rescue purposes; they combine a wide field of view with strong Doppler shift, making it more likely a distress signal is pinpointed promptly and accurately," says Fermin Alvarez, ground station and fielding engineer with ESA.

Canadian Solar stock advanced 20 percent in past year
Canadian Solar Inc.'s stock finished Tuesday's session 0.79 percent lower at $33.92. A total of 1.37 million shares were traded, which was below its three months average volume of 2.91 million shares. The stock moved between $33.83 and $34.53 during the session.
Canadian Solar's shares have gained 1.10 percent in the last one month and 54.60 percent in the previous three months. Additionally, the stock has advanced 19.65 percent in the past one year.
The company's shares are trading above their 50-day and 200-day moving averages. Moreover, the stock's 50-day moving average of $29.61 is greater than its 200-day moving average of $29.17. Canadian Solar Inc.'s stock traded at a PE ratio of 8.45 and has an RSI of 59.81.
