The Basics: How to bet the ITF tennis tournament in Charlottesville

The International Tennis Federation (ITF) is visiting Charlottesville, Va., this week as part of their Women's World Tennis Tour. Boar's Head Resort is hosting the event.

Over 45 professional tennis players will participate in the tournament. The first day of singles qualifying begins on Monday, with a singles main draw on Tuesday. The tournament will conclude with a final on Sunday. Players are competing for a grand prize of $100,000.

Top Players

Some of ITF’s top tennis professionals will descend on Charlottesville to claim a tournament win in Hoo-Ville.

Iva Jovic leads the list of participants with the highest Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) ranking. She is currently ranked 141st in the WTA.

At age 17, Jovic's win rate for 2025 is 62% (10 wins and 6 losses). Her clay surface win rate is 50% (1 win, 1 loss).

Australia’s Arina Rodionova follows Jovic, ranked 172nd with an overall win rate of 65% (15 wins and 8 losses). She is 2-3 on clay courts, with a 40% win rate.

Brazil’s Laura Pigossi ranked 183, followed by a 2025 win-loss of 33% (6 wins and 12 losses). Her clay surface performance is 3-4, a win rate of 43%.

How To Bet

The Commonwealth of Virginia hosts 12 online/mobile sportsbooks that have handled over $21 billion in bets since January 2021.

In 2024, tennis bets ranked third as the most popular wager in Virginia. Professional basketball accounted for 19.48% of the bets, followed by football at 13.14% and tennis at 12%.

Before we get into the details of each sportsbook and how to place a bet, let's set some guidelines.

I’ve been writing this blog for over 10 years, covering various topics (aviation, industry, government, space, and stocks). I’ve been slowly stepping into the “how to” arena of gambling based on my own experience.

You really should look at the world of gambling as just fun. It’s not a way to make money or get rich. Use money that you are willing to lose with no negative impact. We all know people can get carried away. We all spend money in different places.

A small deposit of $5 to $10 in a sportsbook account can go a long way. Why? Because the minimum bet at some sportsbooks is $0.10. Yes, 10 cents. Remember, it's just for fun.

Below is a list of sportsbooks available in Virginia. There are 12 online sportsbooks in the Commonwealth, but not all of them provide bets on tennis. The seven sportsbooks listed below provide options to bet on the Charlottesville Women's Open.

After signing up with a sportsbook, you must fund the account by making a deposit. Review the different sportsbooks listed below for deposit and minimum bet requirements. Deposits can be made directly from your bank account, PayPal, or other financial services.

Finding A Match to Bet

We have already reviewed a few of the top-ranked players in the tournament: Jovic, Rodionova, and Pigossi. Now, who has the best odds of winning? It's time to identify the “favorites” and the “underdogs” in the tournament.

You can find the ITF W100 Charlottesville tournament by clicking tennis in the sportsbook menu. Simply look for the Charlottesville tournament, or you can search the sportsbook by a player's name.

Once you find the tournament or match that interests you, each player will have a plus or minus symbol preceding their odds, such as +150 or -150. The minus symbol identifies the favorite player expected to win, while the plus sign shows the underdog that is expected to lose. But there can always be an underdog upset. The underdog can still win.

Bet Types

There is a wide variety of bet types you can select for any single sporting event. You can pick the winner of the game or match since we are focused on tennis. Picking the winner of any event is known as a “moneyline” bet. The moneyline is the most common bet placed.

You can also bet that a team or player will win or lose by a certain number of points; that is called a point spread bet.

In the case of tennis, you can also bet on how many sets the match will have. How many total games will be played during the match. You can even bet on who will win each game or the next point in the match. But don’t let this confused you. We can stick with a simple moneyline bet for now. In simple terms, who is going to win the match.
