Southwest Airlines adds Steamboat Springs to Colorado flight schedule

Southwest Airlines extended its published flight schedule from early January through April 11, 2021, adding new flights to the carrier's second Colorado destination with nonstop service to Steamboat Springs, Colo. through Hayden/Yampa Valley Regional Airport beginning Dec. 19. Flights are now available on Southwest.com and today through Aug. 20.

The seasonal service will operate Dec. 19 through April 5 with three-times daily service between Denver and Steamboat Springs, and once a day on Saturdays and Sundays between Dallas and Steamboat Springs.

"This year, customers are looking to experience more of the nation's great outdoors. By linking both Denver and Dallas nonstop to Steamboat Springs, customers across a majority of our network will be able to reach the Rocky Mountains," said Andrew Watterson, Southwest Airlines Executive Vice President & Chief Commercial Officer.

Steamboat Springs is the carrier's 90th airport served within the United States and 104th destination across 11 countries in North America.

Alaska Airlines launches new nonstop service between San Jose and New York

Alaska Airlines launched nonstop service between Mineta San Jose International Airport and John F. Kennedy (JFK) International Airport in New York City on Friday.

With the addition of the new service, Alaska now operates 15 flights a day to JFK from six West Coast gateways including Las Vegas; Los Angeles; Portland, Oregon; San Francisco; San Jose; and Seattle.

With the addition of this new and expanded JFK service, Alaska provides 38 daily flights to 19 nonstop destinations from San Jose.

Timed with the flight expansion, Alaska's newest Lounge is now open on the mezzanine level of Terminal 7 at JFK.

Alaska gates and the Alaska Lounge are located in the same terminal as Global Partners British Airways and Icelandair, providing guests traveling through JFK with convenient access to a combined 10 daily flights to top global destinations across Europe.

JetBlue adds nonstop service between Daytona Beach and New York City

As the home of the Daytona Beach International Speedway, the greater Daytona Beach area is used to victory celebrations. But no celebration means more to this seaside resort area than the news that its years-long effort to recruit JetBlue Airways to serve Daytona Beach International Airport had finally succeeded.

Daily service to New York's Kennedy International Airport begins Jan.7.

"It was a magic moment," said Rick Karl, director of Aviation and Economic Resources for Volusia County Government, which owns the airport. "Ironically, I got the news just minutes after briefing a room full of community leaders that JetBlue had not made its decision, but that our proposals had been well-received. When I returned to my office there was a message waiting for me: JetBlue had decided to add nonstop service between Daytona Beach and New York City."

Community backing included a "travel bank" funded by business professionals who have committed to purchasing tickets during the airline's first years of service and startup advertising dollars provided by Volusia County Government and the area's three tourism advertising authorities.

The influence of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University also was a factor in the airline's decision to serve the Daytona Beach/DeLand/New Smyrna Beach area, which is within an hour's drive to the Orlando resort area.

Delta and Virgin Atlantic offer two new routes across the pond

Delta Air Lines and Virgin Atlantic Airways will offer customers two new routes across the pond with the introduction of Delta's nonstop service from Salt Lake City to London Heathrow and New York-JFK to Edinburgh, Scotland, beginning in May 2016.

Starting May 1, 2016, Salt Lake City will be Delta's eighth U.S. destination from Heathrow and the only nonstop service between London and the Mountain West. As the largest airline operating in Salt Lake City, Delta offers connections to more than 50 destinations throughout the Western U.S. and into Canada.

Daily nonstop service between New York-JFK and Edinburgh will begin on May 26, 2016, offering customers in the U.K. up to 60 convenient onward connections from JFK. Delta's new service from Scotland's capital city joins Virgin Atlantic's three times weekly summer seasonal service from Glasgow to Orlando.

Launched on January 1, 2014, the Delta and Virgin Atlantic partnership creates an expanded trans-Atlantic route network, enhancing competition between the UK and North America. The joint venture offers customers connecting in the United States seamless access to more than 200 destinations across almost 600 routes.

Southwest Airlines continues major flight expansion from Dallas

Southwest Airlines on Wednesday began operating more time-saving daily itineraries between Dallas Love Field and nine additional cities around the United States (Columbus, Ohio; Indianapolis, Ind.; Memphis, Tenn.; Milwaukee, Wis.; Panama City Beach, Fla.; Portland, Ore.; Sacramento, Calif.; San Jose, Calif.; and Seattle, Wash.) and will launch Saturday-only flights between Dallas and Charleston, S.C., this week.

"These flights continue a major expansion of our offerings from Love Field," said Bob Jordan, Southwest Airlines' Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer. "By the end of the summer, we'll be operating service to 50 destinations nonstop in nearly every region of the country from Dallas."

In addition, Southwest began additional flights between Dallas and Ft. Lauderdale/Hollywood, Oakland (San Francisco Bay Area), and Santa Ana/Orange County. The carrier also initiated daily service between San Antonio and Cancun, and between Kansas City International Airport and New York LaGuardia.

Southwest operates more than 3,400 flights a day, serving 94 destinations across the United States and six additional countries. Southwest service to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, begins in June; and subject to government approvals, service to Belize City, Belize begins in October.

Alaska Airlines launches Portland/Atlanta nonstop service

Alaska Airlines inaugurated nonstop service between Portland, Ore., and Atlanta on Monday.

"With these new flights to Atlanta, our Portland-area customers will enjoy nonstop service to a great southeastern city as well as connecting opportunities throughout North America via our partner Delta Air Lines' hub there," said Joe Sprague, Alaska Airlines' vice president of marketing, in a company press release. "Alaska Airlines has added eight new routes from Portland within the last 12 months as we continue our expansion from the Rose City, which includes new service to Dallas-Fort Worth on Sept. 16."

Alaska is offering a one-way fare of $149 to celebrate the new service. “Fares must be purchased by Wednesday, require a 14-day advance purchase, and are valid for travel from Sept. 9 through Nov. 20,” the airline said.

Alaska Airlines, a subsidiary of Alaska Air Group, serves 95 cities through an expansive network.
